Media Matters Critiques Washington Post on NOM

In a posting yesterday about the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) and its campaign to remove the right of marriage from gay citizens of Maine and Iowa, I mentioned a fluff piece about NOM’s director Brian “Just a Regular Guy” Brown, which appeared recently in Washington Post.

As a follow-up to that story, I’d like to mention a critique of the WaPo piece that Jamison Foser posted yesterday on the Media Matters blog (h/t John Aravosis at Americablog). Foser’s careful analysis of what the WaPo article left out when it analyzed NOM’s activities is enlightening.

As he notes, it’s interesting to ask how (and why) this fawning hagiography (his words) of a group with a less than hagiographical track record made its way into a mainstream media publication like Washington Post.
