Valuable New Website: Janet Heimlich's Religious Child Maltreatment Site

An outstanding new blog has just come to my attention.  I'd like to recommend it highly to readers.  The blog is Janet Heimlich's Religious Child Maltreatment site.  Heimlich has had a prestigious career as a journalist, and in recent years, has turned her considerable talents to issues of religion-fueled abuse of children.  She's just published a book on this subject entitled Breaking Their Will: Shedding Light on Religious Child Maltreatment, about which information is found at her website.

Quote for Day: Wanda Sykes on Defense of Tracy Morgan's Homophobic Rant--"Break Me Off an Evolved Country"

Quote for the day: Wanda Sykes responding to Chris Rock's (initial: he's now changed his mind) defense of Tracy Morgan's recent homophobic rant in Nashville, after Rock tweeted, "I dont know about you, but I dont want to live in world where Tracy Morgan cant say foul inappropriate s--t":

Cooking to Save the Planet: Grilled Squash, Green Bean Salad, and Pasta Salad with Pesto

Paul Lakeland on Humility as Virtue Needed by Catholics Today, and a Continuation of a Family Saga of Exclusion

Dinah Roe Kendall, "The Good Samaritan," 1994

Tom Fox's report on Paul Lakeland's recent College Theology Society address, “I Want to Be in That Number: Desire, Inclusivity and the Church,” is well worth reading.  Lakeland builds his theology of inclusivity around Elizabeth Johnson's observation that the communion of the saints is never inward-turning, never self-concerned and self-referential.  It is, instead, always reaching out to extend divine blessing to "all living persons of truth and love."

Actor Tracy Morgan Goes Into Another Homophobic Rant?

If this eyewitness report of a recent rant of "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan is true (and see here and here), then Morgan's spirituality is surprising, indeed.

Anniversary of Loving v. Virginia Approaches: Joan Walsh on Marriage Equality

Joan Walsh represents the good face of American Catholicism, the face of the large majority of American Catholics who support the civil rights of LGBT people, including the right to marriage.  The lay face, as opposed to the hierarchical face.
