Several days back, I shared with you a video by Tennessee comedian and self-styled "liberal redneck" Trae Crowder offering devastating (and devastatingly funny) commentary on the stupidity of what Charles Pierce calls "the Urinal Cooties Protection Act" of the now consistently insane state of North Carolina, Tennessee's mother state. The video at the head of the posting is an interview Trae Crowder did two days ago with Lawrence O'Donnell's "Last Word" program.
In it, he explains that one of the reasons he, as a person who grew up in Tennessee in "abject poverty" in a conservative evangelical family, became liberal is that he has a gay uncle and did not appreciate a lot of the things that the church had to say about his uncle as he was growing up. This experience pushed him away from the church and conservative ideology — and from making political choices to vote against his own economic self-interest for the sake of Jesus, something that conservative evangelical churches of the South collude with economic elites, he suggests, in urging their economically struggling adherents to do.

On his Facebook page, Trae Crowder noted several days back that he and other liberal redneck comedians including Corey Forrester are planning a tour. I'm hoping he reaches my neck of the woods. If he does and I'm in town, I'll be there to applaud him.
