The Euteneuer story remains in play. David Gibson has done a very measured and thorough summary of it now at his blog at Politics Daily. One of my favorite passages--Gibson quotes someone commenting at a Catholic blog site on what evidently happened as Fr. Euteneuer conducted his exorcisms:
Being exposed to demons is not an easy thing. Sometimes the demons will purposely twist the bodies of their victims that will have their sexual parts touch the one who is trying to remove the demons. This, I am sure must have happened several times to Father Tom.
The devil made him do it. Literally. By flailing the "sexual parts" of those being exorcised about as poor Father Tom did his exorcism thing. No, I am not making this up.
As I said yesterday, we really, really need to stop making excuses for Father.
As I said yesterday, we really, really need to stop making excuses for Father.
Some days I don't know whether to laugh or to cry at the church we've become in this restorationist period that so many Catholics are hailing as the springtime of the Catholic church.
