More from Jemar Tisby on White Christian Nationalism: "Chases power by stripping it from others, all under the banner of a divinely-sanctioned crusade"

More today from historian and scholar of American religion Jemar Tisby on white Christian nationalism, and why those of us concerned about the future of American democracy need to educate ourselves about it:

The deep story of white Christian nationalism says that in order to restore the nation to its precious place in God's plan, that righteous Christian soldiers have to take action, preferably political action. ...

Whether you are a Christian, a person of another faith, or you don’t practice a religion at all, we have to realize that the white Christian nationalism chases power by stripping it from others, all under the banner of a divinely-sanctioned crusade.

As Jemar Tisby reports, Doug Pagitt, executive director of Vote Common Good, is currently seeking to persuade 5-10% of Republican voters (that's to sway, white evangelical voters) to change their votes and elect candidates who will protect democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.

I applaud Doug Pagitt for attempting this. Count me dubious about whether this project will succeed.
