News: Bro Porn, G. Gänswein & Pain, Gays & Russia, Children & Eating, Cruelty & Irresponsibility, Greed & Prosperity, Mandela's Legacy

Some one-liners that have leapt out at me in articles I've read recently:

On bro porn: "This sort of 'bro-ing' of anti-homophobia stances does not necessarily have the effect of challenging the naturalness and inevitability of sexual and gender categories."

On Georg Gänswein's pain: "At the beginning of each day, I find myself once again waiting to see what will be different today."

On gays in Russia: "Feb. 24, 2014, the day after the Olympics close, 'is the day when things get really bad.'"

On eating: "I really do think we literally civilize our children at the table."

On cruelty and irresponsibility: "But they did come up with a scheme to take money away from public employees and people serving in the military -- effectively reducing what millions of Americans will have to spend on Main Street."

On cruelty and irresponsibility II: "'And now you train them how to argue and speak publicly, so they can go out to do what they’re supposed to do'—spread the faith and promote God’s patriarchy.'

On cruelty and irresponsibility III: "Here’s hoping that this gets him to realize that Doug Phillips’ patriarchal vision is a pack of lies and he and his family are able to move on to a normal life in the real world outside of the crazy of fundamentalist homeschooling."

On greed and prosperity: "Your greed is hurting the economy!"

On greed and prosperity II: "While annual CEO compensation increased by 726.7 percent between 1978 and 2011, average worker compensation only went up 5.7 percent during the same time."

On Nelson Mandela's legacy: "Everyone has the right to have access to health care services, including reproductive health care."

(Thanks to Fred Clark for the link to Ned Resnikoff's article about skyrocketing CEO salaries, and to Dan Savage for the link to Kathryn Joyce's article about homeschooling apostates.)
