And in other news related to Dirty Freddie and how the Catholic church "welcomes" him: the bishop of Rhode Island, Thomas Tobin, has made yet another statement about the deep "injustice" done to Catholics in Rhode Island when gay folks who have long been denied justice now have the right to enjoy all the benefits of civil marriage that everyone else enjoys. No, hang on. Wait a moment.
It's the archbishop of San Francisco Salvatore Cordileone who has just held forth on the Rhode Island situation. Cordileone has hopped into the fray in Rhode Island from across the continent. As Meredith Bennett-Smith reports at Huffington Post, Cordileone published a statement about the Rhode Island decision at the website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Friday.
It's there that he decries the "injustice" done to Catholics when gay human beings finally attain a modicum of justice. And then he goes on to say blah blah blah.
Because who really intends to keep listening when the meaning of "justice" is turned upside down in this outrageous Orwellian way--in the same way that people like Timothy Dolan and Thomas Tobin have recently turned upside down the plain meaning of plain words like "love" and "welcome"?
One group that's definitely not listening: millennials. As Katie McDonough reports at Salon today, polls continue to find overwhelming support for marriage equality in the millennial generation. McDonough points to the findings of the Pew Research Center in March that 7 in 10 adults in the U.S. born after 1980 support the right of same-sex couples to civil marriage.
