Peter Hess on Continuing Infatuation of American Public with Rapture Thinking

Peter Hess at Huffington Post on the continued appeal of "rapture thinking" among Americans: 

How do we explain the glaring contrast between those who accept the modern scientific worldview and those whose cosmotheology invites "rapture thinking"?

My response: "Alex, I'll take 'stupidity' for $200."

And: 

The fact that Harold Camping's "end of the world" prediction gained any traction at all is disturbing on a variety of fronts.

My response: "You think?!"

The American (voting) public really, really needs to grow up.  It's hard to run a viable democracy with stupid in the driver's seat.
