The Current State of American Democracy, Core Challenges: A Selection of Recent Resources

If you care about the future of democracy in the U.S. (more precisely: if you care about whether democracy has a future in the U.S.), Rachel Maddow's analysis of the role the Koch brothers are playing all over the country "in every scummy political scandal" that pops up anywhere is must-see viewing.  The video clip is at the end of the Alternet article to which I've just linked.

Also must-see footage for anyone who cares about the current state and future of American democracy: Michael Moore speaking at the Wisconsin state capitol on 5 March, noting that 400 Americans now have more wealth than half of all Americans combined.

For valuable charts breaking down the mind-boggling inequity in distribution of wealth with which we're now living, post-Bush (and with no substantial help from Mr. Obama), see David Gilson and Carolyn Perot's recent article at Mother Jones.

On the role that the Chamber of Commerce has been playing (and intends to keep playing) in assuring that the system which is bleeding working- and middle-class Americans dry to keep the filthy rich rich remains in place, see Bill McKibben recently at Huffington Post.

And as we cope with what the current maldistribution of wealth in the nation is doing to our democratic structures, here's the Republican plan to solve our problems, per MoveOn.org.

As I say, a set of must-read, must-listen articles/videos for those who care about the state and future of democracy in the U.S., which I've been saving away for a number of days now, and mulling over as I do my own version of starting the long journey to Easter today, by way of the Cross.
